Public Safety in Home Park

Information on crime, traffic, parking, and code enforcement

Crime

As part of the greater Atlanta metro area, crime is an issue that we (like all neighborhoods) must be vigilant towards.

Our Atlanta Police officers are extremely responsive and helpful, and know many residents by sight if not by name. We regularly publish crime prevention tips for our residents (also listed on this website) and residents are kept informed of reported incidents through the Yahoo listserve (see the "Communications" tab, above.

According to APD Zone 5 Precinct Commander, Major Christopher Leighty, "thefts of property from inside motor vehicles is always a challenge for the Atlanta Police Department, and Zone 5 is no different than anywhere else. However, we've made significant progress in May 2011. Specifically, we've had a 14 percent drop in vehicle larcenies in the past 28 days, according to the most recent weekly APD crime stats. In the first week of June 2011 alone, we saw a 40 percent drop. That's great news, but we know it's a constant struggle. We also know that you (residents) have a direct role in helping us reduce vehicle larcenies. Remember to never leave anything of value in your car and always lock your windows and doors. GPS units, laptops and purses left behind make for attractive targets for thieves. By removing these and other valuables from your car you can ensure you never become a victim of this opportunistic crime."

  • Court Watch
Because some property crimes are perpetuated by repeat offenders, the community participates in the Court Watch Program.  We work in cooperation with the Fulton County District Attorney's Office Community Prosecutor.  The purpose of this program is to attend court hearings of repeat offenders and demonstrate community interest in the case.  Our goal is increasing jail time for habitual offenders.  We hope to accomplish this by reminding the prosecutor and the court of the impact on our community.  Contact us by email at hpcia@yahoo.com if you would like to participate in upcoming hearings.

Traffic

The Public Safety Committee has been working with city officials to develop a plan for better control of traffic in the neighborhood.

Parking

Home Park has many streets that are resident-only parking. Cars must have a permit displayed on the window to park on these streets or they will be ticketed. To learn more about Home Park's permit parking program and to obtain an application for a permit, please follow this link.

Code Enforcement

  • Litter and Illegal Dumping
Do you have an old couch you need to get rid of? Be sure to call Bulk Pickup 404-330-6333 and schedule to have that and any other large items taken away. When we look as if we respect and care for our environment, we reduce the likelihood of attracting criminals. Check out Keep Georgia Beautiful for more information.
